On Wednesday the second of Febuary my Advanced Higher Graphics class had a day trip to Glasgow where we were kept busy all day visiting interesting places. We drove in the morning on the mini bus then headed straight to Kelvingrove museum. I took a picture of a stuffed tiger in here as it was relevent to my AH art project. We then walked to to the tube station and had lunch in a near by pizza hut. And pritty much cleared out the boofy. Shortly after we took to ‘the light house’ in it there was several design projects ranging from archatecture to enviromental. I took several pictures from the work displayed on the walls. At the top there was a view of Glasgow but we were so high you were mostly looking down on the roofs. On the way to the design offices we briefly visited Willow tea rooms, of whichs building is a Charles Rennie Mackintosh. We reached the Snook design offices which is run by Lauren Currie and Sarah Drummond who is a former pupil from the Royal High School. They gave me a great insite to a whole new area of design which they were clearly passionate about. I especially liked how a large amound of their work uses information and oppinions from either the client or who it is aimed at, simalarly to how I brought together my Commemorative Brochure for Hairspray. This approach will definatly give a better end result. It is inspireing to see strong motivation and confidence to start thier own company at a young age in Glasgow. After visiting them I feel that after getting to grips what area I would like to specialise in, start my own company. I feel that this would be a good path to take as it means you can be your own boss and I am confident in leading through experience mainly in guiding.

After this visit we went to see ‘Black Swan’ in the cinema. Personaly I did not enjoy this film but was mainly because of personal taste and small phobia of birds. Before leaving had a quick bite in KFC then drove home.

For the Expressive folio I chose the theme  ”In the Kitchen” where I researched into items often found in a kitchen. Then I developed this idea by trying different layouts and alternative mediums.   I found that it looked best when using high key lighting.  The final Piece was set in my kitchen with a objects set around a pot.

I chose to make a clock for the design folio, it is based on African animals.  I tried to recreate the shapes and forms of animals with clay, paper mache and balsa wood.  The final design is a tiger with zebra, elephant, giraffe and crocodile overlooking from behind, along with each animal’s tail hanging on a spring below the tiger’s body.

In this slide are some images of other projects i have created. It includes a wooden box made with a dovetail joint. I then pirographed my initials on to a pannel platformed above the lid. The nex is a pencil box i made in second year, the lid is scewed into a wooden block which allows it to swivel into place. The design on the top is to give the impression of a chocolate bar, the wrapper is the on the lid that opens. The mirror has a design illistrating a row of flowers allong the top. The center of each flower has been drilled out and had yellow acrilic plastic put in its place. In standerd grade graphic communication I used technical drawings to design and create a model hospital building. it has to semi-circles joined by a taller cylender. While making the clock I used a hegnasaw to get the most precise shape for the face and stand. The latter of the two pictures shows best how it fits together and the joining of the mechanisims to the hands. The clock hands were made from a flexable metal which made it easy to wrap around a cocktail stick in order to create a sprinny shape. Lastly is a sculpture of a head which I made in Standard Grade Art and design. The brief was to design something you might see in a sci-fi film. I chose to base it on a woman who had a double personality. The left represents the devil and a particularly evil side where as the right is an angel.

This is my project from Standerd Grade Craft and design. I chose to make  a  Cabinet to hold make up and jewelery. My aim was ultimatly to make something very diferent for storing large amounts of make up/jewelery and to fully function efficiently. In the slide show is several images from the folio including the cover, reasearch page, ideas, development, final design and technical drawing.  Also there is a selection of photographs of the cabinet from different angles. This best demonstrates how it works and the joints of wood work.
